Deployed to operations in Korea and Taiwan via Japan/Okinawa, and to operations in USA in furtherance of Marine and Naval Air, Naval Gunfire mission in support of United States Army units and Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO) member forces.

- San Francisco Police Department, San Francisco, CA - 1962 to 1978  

Assistant Patrol Special; Police Officer; Police Sergeant; served in Patrol Division (Co. F and Co. A), Traffic Bureau (Co. K), Crime Specific Task Force (1st Platoon, Tactical Unit) and Personnel and Training (Headquarters Co., Academy).  Major accomplishments:  Produced Patrol Officers Manual, Volume I and II; produced Specialist Team Tactics Manual; ; initiated, developed and managed department’s Specialist Teams; initiated, developed and managed department’s Hostage Negotiator Program; managed Recruit Training classes; managed In-Service Training classes; produced training videos; successfully participated in multiple critical incidents as negotiator or as tactical team member (various roles).

- San Rafael Police Department, San Rafael, CA - 1978 to 1980             

Lieutenant of Police; Watch Commander; Special Response Team (SRT) Commander; Hostage Negotiator Team (HNT) Commander.  Major accomplishments: Initiated Field Evidence Technician program; initiated Marin County Hostage Negotiator Association (for mutual aid); initiated weapons and equipment update for SRT and HNT units; successfully participated in multiple critical incidents as incident commander or negotiator.

- Crown Zellerbach Corporation, San Francisco, CA - 1980 to 1986      

Corporate Security (Risk) Manager responsible for managing security type risks to the corporation and administering policy related to crimes committed against the corporation.  Investigated reported and discovered crimes; referred legitimate cases to law enforcement authorities; conducted security surveys at facilities throughout US and in Canada; published security risk reduction newsletters, bulletins, posters, slideshows, and pamphlets.

- Doane Agency, San Rafael, CA - 1986 to 1997

Owner/Qualified Manager of security consulting and private investigation agency.  Consulted with corporate clients regarding security risks; conducted investigations in support of legal clients in civil and criminal cases, including court appointed cases, state and federal jurisdiction.  Conducted consultations and investigations in support of individual clients.

- Portland Police Bureau, Portland, OR - 1997 to 2009            

Police Desk Clerk at Central Precinct, 2100 hrs. to 0700 hrs. shift.  Screened precinct walk-ins and telephone inquiries and made referrals to officers and investigators for follow-up.  Assisted officers in computer searches/CAD inquiries.  Listened to citizens who needed to talk.  Performed duties in access control to precinct and to bureau headquarters.
